Platinum Drum Investigation (Platinum Seafood Plant)

About this Project

In the spring of 2006, Coastal Villages Region Fund (CVRF) began planning for the acquisition of a site for the construction of a seafood processing plant located approximately two miles north of the village of Platinum on a gravel spit on the south side of the entrance to Goodnews Bay, Alaska. CVRF contracted Paug-Vik Services to perform an onsite investigation for planning and construction support prior to development. A series of environmental site investigations including soil and water sampling and debris removal, were done to assess whether environmental impacts existed from past activities reportedly conducted in support of former platinum mining operations in the region. Services also included wetland delineation and permitting, aquifer evaluation for water supply, water and septic system studies and designs, archaeological agency coordination, and other permitting and planning activities.
