King Salmon Air Station – Remedial Action Projects
About this Project
The primary objective of the 2009 Remedial Action Projects (RAPs) was to remove contaminated soil from Circle Landfill, Fire Training Area No. 4, Naknek Recreation Camp II (Lake Camp), and the former White Alice Site located at King Salmon, Alaska. This project included the excavation and disposal or treatment of petroleum, oil, and lubricant (POL)-contaminated soil, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-contaminated soil, and pesticide-contaminated soil. Excavations were backfilled to the original grade with uncontaminated soil. Additional objectives included drum removal from one site, dismantling of four existing biocells containing treated soil, the construction of new biocells to receive contaminated soil generated during this project, and initiating groundwater monitoring programs at Circle Landfill, Fire Training Area No. 4, and Lake Camp. Remedial activities conducted at these sites are part of the United States Air Force Environmental Restoration Program (ERP).
