Ekwok Well and Septic

About this Project

The City of Ekwok, Alaska contracted Paug-Vik Development Corporation to conduct an On-site Well and Septic System Improvement Project through the State of Alaska Village Safe Water program. The main purpose of this project was to provide low-iron, sanitary drinking water to all residents of Ekwok.  The wells were designed to produce water from a shallow aquifer, which contains high quality water with a low metal content.  Twenty-six wells were drilled in 2005-06.

Wastewater treatment and disposal within the community is accomplished through individual septic systems and a city-owned sewer collector and lagoon.  Repairs and/or upgrades to some of the existing facilities were necessary to protect the shallow drinking water aquifer from contamination.

The plumbing system were upgraded in practically all occupied homes.  Homes received a pressure tank, water heater, lavatory sink, bathtub, kitchen sink, and/or toilet depending on the location and need identified in an inspection survey.  Electrical upgrades to handle the pump and appliances were also completed as necessary.
